to be mailed Notice of Public Review and Comment OpportunityRE: Cate School’s Installation of an Emergency GeneratorCate School has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) for a permit to install and operate an 80 bhp diesel-fired emergency generator within the grounds of Cate School located at 1960 Cate Mesa Road, Carpinteria. This generator will provide backup power to the Waste Water Treatment Plant located on school grounds and the engine will be used in the event of a power failure. As part of the APCD’s evaluation of this proposed installation, we have assessed the potential health risk created by the project’s emissions. Our analysis, which is conservatively health protective, shows that the expected emissions from this installation will be well below any levels that would create a significant air toxic risk to public health and the environment. Before our agency issues this permit, state law requires that we notify you, since you are either the parent/guardian of a student attending the school or are a resident or business located within 1,000 feet of the site. We are providing you an opportunity to review and comment on this proposed permitting action. Further, prior to issuing the final permit, we will include in the permit’s administrative file our written responses to any comments we receive during the comment period. A copy of the draft permit document (Authority to Construct/Permit to Operate 13241) is available for review at the following locations: APCD offices (260 North San Antonio Road, Suite A, Santa Barbara); the Carpinteria Public Library: (5141 Carpinteria Avenue, Carpinteria); and on this website by clicking on the link below Draft Permit File (PDF) Please provide any comments to us within 30 days of the receipt of this notice at the address below (Attn: David Harris, 961-8824). Sincerely, Michael Goldman, Manager Engineering & Compliance Division Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District 260 N. San Antonio Rd. Suite A Santa Barbara CA 93110 Mailed January 29, 2010
