Come to 2006 Earth Day Festival Car Free and Win

Prizes include bicycle, train tickets, bus passes and more

Santa Barbara, California—The Santa Barbara Car Free Project has announced the “2006 Come to Earth Day Car Free and WIN” campaign in celebration of Santa Barbara’s 36th anniversary South Coast Earth Day Festival—on Sunday, April 23, 2006, from 10:00am to 5:30pm in the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Gardens. The Car Free Project, sponsored by the County Air Pollution Control District (APCD), is a partnership of more than 90 area businesses, agencies and individuals dedicated to promoting car free transportation to and around Santa Barbara for cleaner air.

APCD/Santa Barbara Car Free Project Manager Mary Byrd suggests, “Arrive at the Earth Day Festival on foot, by bike, train, bus or shuttle–then visit our booth and register to win great prizes.” Given away every hour, prizes include: sets of pedometers & Walk Santa Barbara books (www.thetrailmaster.com); MTD bus passes (www.sbmtd.gov); and pairs of roundtrip Amtrak Pacific Surfliner tickets (www.amtrak.com). The Grand Prize will be winner’s choice of a 15-inch Cross 3 bicycle or a 17-inch Newport bicycle ($425 value) from Commuter Bicycles (www.commuterbicycles.com).

People who don’t arrive Car Free can still make a car free pledge to be eligible to win a pair of train tickets. Says Byrd, “Car free transportation is great for your health and helps keep the air clean. Take a vacation from your car—and you and the environment will both be winners.” To learn how to arrive Car Free, receive a free map, and discover more about the Santa Barbara Car Free Project and hundreds of car free options and discount packages:
