Green Award Nominations Start on Earth Day

Santa Barbara, CA — Doing business in Santa Barbara County can be good for our economy and good for our environment. Over the past 11 years, over 50 organizations in Santa Barbara County have been honored with Green Awards for their voluntary, environmentally- friendly business practices. Last year, Green Awards were presented to Great White Dental Lab, UCSB Housing & Residential Services, Monte Vista Elementary School, and Kanaloa Seafood. The Green Award recognizes companies, organizations, and schools for voluntary activities that result in cleaner air or water, less waste, less traffic, conservation of energy and natural resources, or reduced use of hazardous materials.

Today, the Green Award Consortium announced the opening of the nomination period for the 2005 Green Awards.

Nominations will be accepted from April 23, 2005 through June 24, 2005.

The Consortium invites County residents to submit nominations for a business, organization or school that is taking extraordinary steps to protect or improve the environment of Santa Barbara County. Nomination forms are available by calling any one of the agencies listed below, or by downloading the form from the Green Difference web page at www.greendifference.org.

Nominations may also be submitted electronically. Nominated activities should be voluntary and result in measurable environmental benefits. Businesses or organizations can nominate themselves. Government agencies and individuals are not eligible. The Consortium includes: Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, Community Environmental Council, Santa Barbara County Water Agency, Santa Barbara County Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division, and SBCAG Traffic Solutions. Awards will be announced during National Pollution Prevention Week, September 19 – 25, 2005.
