New 20 Percent Savings on Amtrak® Travel to/from Santa Barbara County through Santa Barbara Car Free Project Offer

Save money, improve air quality and reduce traffic when traveling by Amtrak Pacific Surfliner® or San Joaquin® to/from Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Solvang, Buellton, Lompoc, Surf, Guadalupe and Santa Maria

Santa Barbara, California—The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District and the Santa Barbara Car Free Project are pleased to announce a new, first-time ever 20 percent savings on Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and San Joaquin (and associated thruway coaches) travel to/from all nine Amtrak stations in Santa Barbara County — Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Solvang, Buellton, Lompoc, Surf, Guadalupe and Santa Maria. The “Santa Barbara Car Free 20 Percent Savings Offer” is valid for travel starting August 1, 2006, through December 13, 2007 (blackout dates and restrictions apply).

“We are so pleased to be able to offer this savings for train travel to all these cities in our county through 2007, including the summer months, which represent our peak smog season —and our peak visitor season. Cars and trucks are the number one source of smog-forming pollution in our county, and every person that uses the train represents one less car on the road,” said Terry Dressler, Director of the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, which leads this award-winning eco-tourism cooperative partnership. The Project, with more than 90 community and business partners, encourages car free travel to and around Santa Barbara for cleaner air. Brian Hart, Amtrak’s Marketing Director–Southern Region remarked, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Santa Barbara Car Free. This program is a win-win for everyone and the environment.”

To receive the savings, an official Amtrak promotion code is required and reservations must be made at least three days in advance of departure by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, logging on to http://www.Amtrak.com or visiting any staffed Amtrak station.
