Update Monday morning, September 25: Continue to check this website for updates, however, it does not appear the smoke is causing a problem in our county at this time.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Precautionary Statement (NOT a Health Advisory)Areas May Be Affected by Smoke from the Day FireSanta Barbara, CA-The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) today issued a precautionary statement for people living in areas that may be affected by smoke from the Day Fire. This statement is not at the level of a health advisory. As of 4:00 PM today, it does not appear that smoke will pose a significant problem for many county residents today. Changing wind and weather patterns will affect how much smoke is in the air in the county over the next several days. The APCD will continue to monitor the situation, and will post updates on this web site. Said Air Pollution Control Officer Terry Dressler, “We are urging people to exercise their judgement. If smoke is in the air, take appropriate actions to limit your exposure. We will issue a health advisory if it appears areas of our county are being significantly impacted.” See http://www.OurAir.org for updated information, and for more information on the fire incident, see http://www.inciweb.org/incident/475. For information on smoke impacts, see this page on this site, or http://www.airquality.org/smokeimpact, a web page developed for the public by the California Air Pollution Control Officer's Association. The page lists the health impacts of smoke and protective measures, and includes links to air quality forecasts, fire status information and satellite photos.
