FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Public Health Contact: Michele Mickiewicz, Public Information Officer, 805-451-3497 (cell) APCD Contact: Tom Murphy, APCD Division Manager, 805-403-1096 (cell) Air Quality Advisory CancelledSanta Barbara, CA The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District today have cancelled the Air Quality Advisory for southern Santa Barbara County communities. However, unfavorable weather conditions could return over the weekend and residents are advised to avoid exposure to ash and soot in the air if another high wind event occurs. The high wind events earlier this week have left large quantities of ash, soot, and dust throughout the community. Residents can help keep these particles from becoming airborne by using common sense indoors and out. For example, if possible use a vacuum device to clean up dust and ash rather than leaf blowers. Drive slower, especially in neighborhoods. Avoid exercising during the morning and afternoon commute hours, advised Air Pollution Control Officer Terry Dressler. Help keep particle levels inside lower. Try to avoid using anything that burns, such as wood fireplaces, gas logs, gas stoves and even candles. Use a vacuum with a True HEPA filter. And don't smoke. That puts even more pollution in your lungs, and in the lungs of people around you. If you have asthma or other lung or heart disease, make sure you follow your doctor's directions about taking your medicines and following your asthma management plan. Call your doctor if your symptoms worsen. ###
